Is the Dev Wallet Holding or Selling? A Neutral Way to Check

"Is the dev still holding?" is one of the first things people ask about a new token, and for good reason — a creator who sells their entire position early is a meaningfully different situation than one who hasn't touched it. The tricky part is checking this without turning a neutral fact into an accusation before you actually know what happened.

Finding the creator wallet

The creator is identifiable directly from the token's creation transaction — it's the wallet that signed and paid for deploying the mint. This is public information, no different from checking who registered a domain.

What "holding" actually requires checking

Here's a detail that's easy to miss: creating a token on Pump.fun doesn't automatically give the creator any tokens. Many creators buy some supply alongside creation — a "creator buy" — but some don't buy at all. So the first question isn't "how much did they sell," it's "did they ever hold a position in the first place." If there's no initial position, there's nothing to evaluate.

When there is an initial position, the useful comparison is straightforward: what they acquired at launch versus what they currently hold. That gives you one of a few honest outcomes — holding the full position, partially sold, or fully exited.

Why we don't label it "safe" or "risky"

Selling some or all of an initial position is common, and on its own it doesn't tell you why it happened. A creator might be taking profit on a token that's doing fine. They might be exiting because they know something you don't. The on-chain data can't distinguish those cases — only report which one occurred.

That's a deliberate choice in how we built our Dev Wallet Checker: it reports "holding," "partially sold," or "exited" as neutral status labels, not as a verdict. Use it alongside holder concentration and early-buyer data for a fuller picture, not as a single yes/no answer.

What to actually check

• Did the creator have an initial position at all, or none?
• If they did, what percentage of it do they currently hold?
• Has that changed recently, or has it been stable for a while?
