How Much Does It Cost to Launch a Token on Pump.fun?
Every cost of a pump.fun launch broken down - buys, creation rent, Jito tips, fees and buffers - with the exact SOL each wallet needs and a calculator.
"How much SOL do I need to launch a token?" has two very different answers depending on what you count. Creating a coin on pump.fun is cheap. Launching it the way most serious creators do - a dev buy, a few wallets buying in the same block, a snipe wave right after - means funding several wallets, paying tips and fees, and leaving room for rent. This post breaks every one of those costs down so the number you send is the number you need.
The short answer
There are two buckets: your buys, which you choose and which turn into tokens you hold, and launch costs, which are spent no matter how the token does. For a typical launch with a 0.5 SOL dev buy, three bundle wallets at 0.5 SOL and ten snipe wallets at 0.2 SOL, the buys are 4.0 SOL and the launch costs are about 0.14 SOL on top. You put 4.14 SOL across the 14 wallets. Try your own numbers in the launch cost calculator.
1. Your buys
The dev buy is made by the wallet that creates the token, inside the creation transaction itself. Bundle buys come from up to three more wallets in the same Jito bundle, so they land in the same block as the creation. Snipe buys come from up to fifty wallets that fire the moment the launch has landed. All of this SOL buys tokens on the bonding curve; none of it is a fee. How much to put behind each role is a strategy question - see choosing the number of wallets and snipe, bundle or both.
2. Token creation and rent
Creating the mint, its metadata and its bonding-curve accounts costs the dev wallet roughly 0.02 SOL, almost all of it Solana rent - the deposit every account must hold to exist. On top of that, each wallet that buys needs a token account for the new coin, which also holds rent (about 0.002 SOL). That is why every launch wallet keeps a small buffer beyond its buy. In SolBundle the buffers are fixed and the same numbers are used by the wizard and the server's pre-flight check:
- Dev wallet: 0.031 SOL - token creation and rent, the 0.01 SOL launch-bundle tip and network fees.
- Bundle wallet: 0.003 SOL - its token account rent and network fees.
- Snipe wallet: 0.008 SOL - its token account rent, its own 0.005 SOL Jito tip and network fees.
Rent is the part people forget, and it is why a wallet funded with exactly its buy amount fails. More on that in Solana's rent minimum explained.
3. Jito tips
A same-block launch goes out as a Jito bundle, and the validator that includes it is paid a tip. SolBundle pays 0.01 SOL for the launch bundle, from the dev wallet. Snipe wallets go out as their own small bundles right after the launch, so each pays its own 0.005 SOL tip - the reasoning is in why a snipe wallet pays its own tip. If a bundle doesn't land, its tip isn't paid. For how tip size relates to landing, see Jito tips explained.
4. Fees on each buy
pump.fun charges its own trading fee on every buy and sell on the curve - around 1% (the live program read 95 basis points when we checked it against the docs). It is taken by the program itself, inside the trade. SolBundle's platform fee is 0.5% of each buy - dev, bundle and snipe - and it is also paid inside the same transaction or bundle, so it is only charged when the buy actually lands.
5. Network fees
Solana's base fee is 0.000005 SOL per signature, plus a small priority fee. Even across dozens of wallets this is a fraction of a cent each, and it is already inside the buffers above.
Putting it together
For any launch, the SOL each wallet needs is:
- Dev: dev buy × 1.005 + 0.031
- Each bundle wallet: its buy × 1.005 + 0.003
- Each snipe wallet: its buy × 1.005 + 0.008
Add them up and you have the total to send. A wallet a little short is the most common reason a launch is refused, so the launch wizard checks every balance before anything is uploaded or sent, and any short wallet gets a Fund button with the exact amount missing. If you are funding from an exchange, a single deposit to a one-time address can cover every wallet at once.
What you get back
Unused buffer stays in the wallets: once you are done, Collect sweeps it back to one place. Token accounts can be closed later to recover their rent. The only costs that are truly gone are the tips, the trading fees and the network fees.
Frequently asked questions
How much SOL do I need to launch a token on pump.fun?
Creating the coin itself costs the dev wallet about 0.02 SOL in rent and fees. A launch with a dev buy, bundle and snipe wallets needs each wallet's buy plus about 0.5% in fees plus a small buffer: 0.031 SOL for the dev wallet, 0.003 SOL per bundle wallet and 0.008 SOL per snipe wallet.
Do I pay the Jito tip if the bundle fails?
No. The tip is a transfer inside the bundle, so it is only paid when the bundle lands. A launch bundle that never lands costs its wallets nothing.
What is the SolBundle fee?
0.5% of each buy and sell, paid inside the same transaction or bundle - so it is only charged on trades that land. There is no subscription and no upfront fee.
Why does a wallet need more than its buy amount?
Every account on Solana must hold rent, including the token account each buyer gets for the new coin, and there are network fees and tips. Funding a wallet with exactly its buy amount makes the transaction fail.
